Thrifty finds...

It was a big day today. I dropped the twins at school, they were going to the local fire station for a field trip at 10. Chandra asked me if I wanted to go to CHKD and I said no because I have a big map of Germany that belonged to my grandfather Schlosser that I wanted to take to the frame shop in that hour before the field trip began. So I asked her to come along with me. She did and when we got to the frame shop, it was closed. Arrgh! We ended up going thrift shopping instead! It was a relatively quick trip but very productive. She found some HUGE black feather wings (think big like ones the Angel of Death would wear...and now her hubs has a Halloween costume!), a black beaded dress ($3.99...it easily cost over $300 brand new...it didn't fit me or I would have had it), and a few other little items. I picked up some books for the kids, some gray and black velvet pants (to make a new panel/strip skirt out of), and the plate below...

It says "Hilsen fra Norge" or Greetings from Norway. What a beauty. I paid $2.38 for it! I don't know if it's worth anything but it is going to look super cute on my Norway shelf with my Nyform Trolls.

After thrifting, we had to run back to go to the fire house with the kids. They had fun and got to sit in the big fire truck and "steer" the wheel.

Back home for lunch and I vacuumed the house, started laundry, etc. I chatted with Chan online because, you know, seeing her all morning wasn't enough...and then she brought Izzy over to play with the kids! She worked on a Letterboxing stamp, we hung out and chatted. The kids chased each other through the backyard for at least 2 hours. Beautiful day.

(Edited to say: there are more fire station photos on Flickr. The little girl beside William is his girlfriend. I have some very cute photos of them on Flickr also.)

When I saw Maria's post asking for Skyr recipes, I just knew you'd be the one to send her a great one! We now have Whole Foods in Richmond so I can buy some. And Trader Joe's! Richmond Folk Festival coming up in a few weeks--I remember seeing y'all last year. Boy, I'm glad it's this year and not last--no offense ;-) My new computer is now working, online, and I'm starting to configure it and transfer files so I hope to get back in the swing of things. Hope to see you before too long! Did I send you my new gmail address?

Does your Whole Foods carry Skyr brand or the other one? I cannot remember the name? We weren't planning on coming up for Folk Festival this year (what week-end is it, do you know???) but perhaps a different week-end just to go to Whole Foods. I don't have your new gmail...let's get together and plan a week-end for a visit! I think we are going to attempt a first camping trip with kids 10/11. 18th and 25th are already planned. Wow, October is over already! How does your November look?

Looks like the brand of skyr is Siggi's. I haven't purchased it yet. I hear that Whole Foods is aka Whole Paycheck!
Where do you plan on camping--have you decided yet? What a wonderful gift to give your kids--the love of camping! Folk Festival is weekend of October 10. Maybe we'll see you in Nov.! darienduke@gmail.com
