Why I love Etsy...

I have a penchant for handmade skirts. Phatty patchy skirts. Strip skirts. Spinny, comfy skirts. Most quilters appreciate these when I wear them as there is often some form of applique included and I'm almost always asked if I've made them myself (I haven't...yet...but I plan to change that when the twinkies go to school in the fall)...most average folks give me weird looks (ie, the ones in places like Wal-Mart) when they see me wearing one. Sunday night, I found a skirt on Etsy that I HAD to have. The "Peace" skirt...absolutely beautiful and perfect for summer. And in a colour scheme I don't already own. I took my measurements. According to the item description the skirt would fit and I would still have 2" of extra give around my hips. Imagine my surprise when my skirt arrived today, I opened the package, tried it on, and had, say about 6 extra inches of give around my hips! Bah! It's still cute, but waaaay too big, and when I bustle it in the back it makes me look like I have the fatest (phat-est)ass in the world! Oh well. I'll still wear it because it's cute...and comfy! And frankly, I have two pair of shorts that aren't too big on me and I really need some new summer clothes this year.

So, here are the photos of the Peace skirt...

This is how it was wrapped when I took it out of the packaging!

And a little card with the history of the skirt's name...

And fat-ass back view...from this photo, you can't even tell I've lost 15 pounds in the past 7 months!

And a few shots from the garden...a pretty blue flower that I haven't identified yet. It came from the "Cottage Garden" seed mat that we put out there in the spring. Beautiful!

Heirloom "Brandywine" tomatoes

Beefsteak or Big Beef...not sure which, but there are 3 good ones on the plant...

A nice bunch of cherry tomatoes!

Tonight we had dinner out at the Jumbo Buffet. Afterwards, we popped over to Home Depot to pick up some wood screws we need to complete the new raised flower bed. Steven is already planning for his Halloween display and he picked up a few pipes and pieces of wood he needs for his "bottomless pit". I looked at the plants (of course) and grabbed a few that were reduced to .50 and 1.00 My dad replaced our mailbox back in February when he was here visiting...I still have the old wooden box (literally a rectangular wooden box with lid) so I am going to remove the lid and use it as a planter. Hopefully I'll be able to hang it on the fence somewhere and it'll look cute. That's the idea anyway. I'm going to pot it up tomorrow and hopefully we'll get it hung this week-end. I'll post photos...never fear!

What a cute skirt! I think you can make it fit better if you shorten it just a little, if you get it to stop at your knees...
