Stevie Nicks - Chula Vista, CA - May 23

I don't know where to start and I'm really having trouble with this entry. I guess I could say this was one of the "smokiest" shows we've ever been to and again we were stuck right smack in the middle of some strange folks who wanted to do nothing but "smoke" and yell and spill their beers all night (and I'm fine with that...but get LAWN seats to do it, please!). Oh, and the beers weren't cheap...$10 for a Coors Light...so, truly, it's not like I wanted to be spilling MINE everywhere!

Chris Isaak opened around 7:40...he came onto the stage in a SHOCKINGLY pink suit...wow. He was great. I don't know many of his songs but the show was enjoyable. Watching the women around us provided a good "show" as well. Oh, I do have to stop a moment and say that Steve and I were among the youngest people in the crowd last night...that made us feel pretty good. Anyway, back to Chris Isaak...his final costume change was truly over the top (in a good way)... bling-i-er than Liberace or Elvis, he came onto the stage in a mirror covered suit. Think of him as a human disco ball. Niiiice. Chris Isaak had quite a long show for an opening act - maybe 60 - 90 minutes. I sort of lost track but it was much longer than when Vanessa Carlton opened for Stevie in Tampa. (yeah, yeah, I know it's because he's so well known but it was hard to continue to wait for what I was there for!)

SO...Stevie...what I'd been waiting for. I must admit that while I still love her with most of my heart (there are a few small spots reserved for a few of ynz out there), I was a tad disappointed last night. It's not something I can really put my finger on but the spark that existed at the FL show in 2005 was missing last night. Maybe it was because I had seen her before and I was just uber excited the first time? Don't know. This show was quite similar - perhaps because the new album is a retrospective - but even the lighting and background scenes were the same. Anyway, Stevie herself seemed a bit stiff, as if she had some sort of injury that prohibited her from really cutting loose. I'm truly not complaining...I had an incredible time and will go again if the opportunity presents itself...just stating my observations.

I *did* manage to sneak in a disposable camera. I'd like to get the photos developed today at the 1-hour but we'll see if I have enough time to get over there. I don't have my scanner to scan them anyway but if they are good, I'll get it done when I get to VA.

I better go get the day started. We didn't get home until 11:45 last night and it's 7:45 now. Steve and Tinna are still in bed but Delaney and William are up and fighting already. The house really echoes without furniture so it seems as if they are being extra loud. Ugh. Where's the Advil...
