Oh what a tangled web we weave!

Can you suss out what happened here?



Those would be Trish's hands holding a skein of Cascade 220 that we were winding into two center-pull balls. (see the ball winder with part of the skein already on it?) Wind, wind, wind...we decided we needed to weigh the yarn to see if we reached the half-way point. Trish kind of scrunched the skein all together and plopped it on the scale. When she lifted it up it was all tangled! Horrifying! We worked for at least an hour trying to untangle it...then it was time for dinner...we worked at it a bit longer after dinner. Eventually she took the whole big mess, the ball winder, the scale, and her kids home with her. (She still had 2 other skeins to wind). She had all of it straightened out by midnight!

Yesterday, I had a heck of a day. Tinna had a doctor appointment at 2. We got out around 2:15 so I went up the street to JoJack's for a cup of coffee and a smoothie for the kids. When I pulled away from the drive-thru, my car was acting very strange...engine was revving fast and it was all I could do to stop it with the brake. I had to put the car in neutral at the stop lights so it wouldn't go into the intersection. When I took my foot off the gas, it would not slow down lower then 40mph. Wow. Very scary. I called the Honda dealership to tell them I'd be bringing it in and then I called AAA to get it towed there. I was without a car all day today. Trish took my kids to school and Ashley picked up milk and bread for me at the Commissary. Turns out that the guy who installed the battery at Wal-Mart last week ran the cables the wrong way so the battery was causing the alternator to arc. (Ok, I might be wrong about this, it's a little out of my league...but that's the best of what I remember him saying. Ask me about knit or purl stitches, not engineering!!!) Thankfully, the mechanic thinks the problem has been fixed and it only cost me $75 and not the thousands I was terrified I'd be paying!

I also made a new recipe yesterday. It's from the book "What To Cook..." by Arthur Schwartz. Great little book...I picked it up at the Book Owl for my birthday.

Tuna and Beans

Serves 2 for a light meal, 4 as an appetizer

One 6 1/2 oz can tuna (preferably light, not white), drained
One 16-oz can cannellini beans, drained
1 small onion or 2 shallots, finely chopped (optional)
1 small rib celery, finely chopped (optional)
1 to 2 TBSP lemon juice or red wine vinegar
1 or 2 TBSP olive oil
Freshly ground black pepper

1. In a small mixing bowl, using a fork, gently blend all the ingredients together, being careful not to mash the beans
2. May be served immediately or chilled before serving.
3. A Fresh Touch: Finely chopped fresh basil, mint, or parsley is always welcome.



Delish! I put mine on a bed of butter lettuce and topped it with some feta and a drizzle of balsamic dressing.
