Libraries...

Ohhh-ho-ho, how interesting life is! I got my mani-pedi (yep, broke down and did both - no colour on the hands, though, since I dig in dirt and it would be wasted on me, French on the toes), stopped by the post office to send off a package, and decided to make a stop at the library. I had some books that were due yesterday and let's be honest, why not go in while there are no kids running wild and distracting me AND the other patrons! Ha! So...went into the library, picked some books and headed to the circ desk. (BTW, Sue, there is a HUGE, BEAUTIFUL Sound of Music book that you might be interested in seeing...ISBN 1-4165-4954-4) I asked the librarian there if she knew if the library would be getting Tori Spelling's new book "sTORI Telling". (oh-dear-gods, did I just write that on my blog??? now you know the SHIT that I read!) The woman said it wasn't listed in the system and I made a comment about "Yeah, I wasn't sure if you all would get it or not. Actually the thought had crossed my mind to buy it and donate it when I'm done reading it." and she said "Yeahhh, well, the problem with that is we don't have a cataloger any longer." Me: "Oh really?" and inside thinking "Holy shit! This could be my big break!" 'Cause, let's be honest, I'm not quite the reference-librarian-people-person that you all out there reading this might think I am and I'm still bitter about having to turn down that entry-level cataloging job with the Census Bureau way back in 1994. At any rate, the librarian proceeded to tell me that there is a hiring freeze in the City of Portsmouth at this time but it could possibly be lifted when the new fiscal year begins in July. Well, I'm not quite ready to go back to work YET (ie, read previous blog about *15* hours alone each week beginning in September!) but she did also happen to tell me that when the new Churchland branch opens in 2009, they will be hiring at least *10* new librarians! Waaa-hoo! That just might work for me. I'll definitely be scoping the list to see what they have available and would even settle for an entry-level cataloging job (if they'd have me) or some sort of part-time position if I can work out child care issues, etc.

Squee!!!

Off to get Delaney from the bus and do more laundry...

Thanks, Laura! If I DO go back to work, you'll read it here first. =)
