Read!

A bunch of thoughts on reading today.

Just finished "Mugglenet.com's What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7?" GREAT read. I got it done in less than a week...and I'm a slow reader. Lots of theories about what will happen. Will Harry kill Voldemort? Will Harry live or die? Is Harry a horcrux? Things to think about. I'm still not convinced Dumbledore is dead. JKR says he is but I still can't believe it. I think I'll be watching some HP movies this week-end. I'm really in the mood now. I can't wait for the new book - look soon for me to add a counter to the side of my page...counting the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until the July release! (07-07-07 - what a magical day for a book release about a magical kid!)

What will I read next? Not sure. I have a variety of things available to me currently. Two sagas that have been borrowed from Steven's library at school - Sturlunga Saga and Eyrbyggia Saga. Bellows' version of The Poetic Edda. The Well and the Tree: World and Time in Early Germanic Culture.

Last night while making dinner I picked The Walker's Literary Companion off my shelf. This is another possiblity - but I don't think it is the kind of thing you can just sit down and read. It is a collection of writings for walkers. Maybe some Thoreau or Emerson would do me a world of good right now. Here's what the liner notes say...

"The Walker's Literary Companion...is a gathering of all the best fiction, essays, and poetry on walking. It celebrates the beauty of athletic motion wedded with its spiritual and cerebral essence. Anyone who walks for pleasure or exercise - whether hiking in the Alps or strolling in the park - will be drawn to this infinitely rich tome."

Then there's the possibility of re-reading the entire Harry Potter series again. Just to get ready. But I'm not sure if I'm THAT psyched about it...not when I have such limited reading time on a daily basis.

I've also been given some recommendations (Thank you , Maria!) for some Icelandic fiction. I have some coupons and gift certificates for Borders...and Debbie has offered to watch the kids for us tonight so we can go out for awhile...hmmm...so I might just use those for that very thing. I know I'll be heading out with a list longer than what I have money for.

As you can see, I have some BIG decisions facing me this afternoon! But for now, I'm off with the kiddies to the grocery store. Turns out, with the extra helpers (Steve and Debbie) unloading my car on Monday, one bag - you know, the most expensive one full of MEAT - was left in my car and not noticed until Tuesday morning. And seeing that there's not much else left in the house now that we are at the end of the week, I have to go stock up again.

Oh! Another quick thought on reading. After a bunch of discussions on banned books lately, I'm going to be buying a "I read Banned Books" t-shirt for myself. Please, GO READ A BANNED BOOK! And be proud of it. Tell everyone you meet and yell it from the rooftops!
